HOST PETER BOYLES:

  • One of the great fighters since we’ve come over to 710 [AM, KNUS] and before.  Her name is Laura Woods. And of course, everyone remembers the recalls, and Laura was on her game in recalling Evie Hudak, and then decided to throw her hat in the ring, and although you don’t want to say it, but, run for Evie’s seat.  Which is — It’s wrong to say that, on some level, just, “I’m running for Evie’s seat.”  Ladies and gentlemen, Laura Woods!  Good morning everyone! Hi!

CANDIDATE FOR COLORADO STATE SENATE, LAURA WOODS:

  • Good morning, Peter! How are you?

BOYLES:

  • You know, I’m good! If we ever catch some weather this week, we’re not going to –we’re not going to get rained out.

WOODS:

  • Sounds like it’s looking up!

BOYLES:

  • Well, where do you stand, now, in this run?  And we’re coming up on time, so, now what?

WOODS:

  • We are coming up on time.  It’s like the second down of the four down series
  • You know we’re out knocking doors and doing meet and greets
    • And getting our name out there
    • And working with the community
    • And fighting the establishment at every point just like we did with the recall

BOYLES:

  • Establishment, country-club, big Republicans wanted nothing to do with recalls, people who I admire and who have stood against the establishment (Tancredo, Laffey, Kopp, you)– what’s going to happen?

WOODS:

  • That’s up to the voters
  • We’re fighting the establishment, as we did on the recalls
    • I’m out there on the streets
    • People are energized – saying, “we can win!”
      • They got energized in the recalls
      • And they want to ride that liberty wave until November
      • People are changing their affiliation from unaffiliated or independent to Republican so they can vote for me in the primary
        • That’s big!
        • That’s how they’re saying, “We can do this!  Us Grassroots can stick together and we can do this!”
        • We’re up against big money, outside special interest groups’ money
          • I’m grassroots candidate
          • I’m running a campaign off of $5 and $10, $20, $50 donations
          • They continue to give money

BOYLES:

  • The Democrats have played this one very, very well.  They’re gone quiet

WOODS:

  • They’re quiet on the front
  • But they’re supporting my opponent in the primary race
  • The Establishment Republicans should look at that and ask:
    • Why do the Dems want Sias
    • Cuz they know they [Zenzinger] can beat him in November

BOYLES:

  • Same dirty tricks in the governors’ race–ads paid for by Democrat 527s

WOODS:

  • Purpose is to create doubt in the voters’ minds against grassroots candidate, Tancredo

BOYLES:

  • Powerful Democrats. the moneyed interests want hick to be challenged by Bob Beauprez, because they’ll beat him.

WOODS:

  • I’d agree with that

BOYLES:

  • They’ll beat Bob Beauprez

WOODS:

  • Yeah

BOYLES:

  • Bob Beauprez will get the nod– all the indications, all the money, all the power figures, Jeb Bush & Romney endorsing –that the Karl Rove Republicans – GOPAC, Chamber of Commerce, Republican Governors Association.—they want Bob Beauprez

WOODS:

  • But we’ve seen the grassroots beat that big money every time
  • I think we can do it again
    • I’m not ready to concede that Govs race to Bob Beauprez, yet

BOYLES:

  • It’s not the outcome I want, but It’s like the Belmont races –the numbers were so stacked against California Chrome winning, that he wasn’t going to win.  There’s the ideal and then there’s the real.  When I see Romney and Jeb show up with wallets – I’m not a fool

WOODS:

  • Well, that’s true
    • If there weren’t outside influences, then the voters could just speak
    • We don’t know what games are being played
      • by Democrats
      • by Establishment Rs
      • That’s why we need the grassroots to rise up
        • Elect the governor you want
        • Elect the legislators you want – not the ones the Party tells you to want

BOYLES:

  • Do you think there’s a civil war inside the Republican Party in Colorado

WOODS:

  • Feels like it

BOYLES:

  • I believe there is one.  There are talk show hosts, editorial writers, anchors who simply want you to go away.  And they want you to take Kopp, and Tancredo, Laffey with you

WOODS:

  • And Tony Sanchez with me.

BOYLES:

  • Oh, yeah!  When it gets to the debates, they’re not going to dirty box Hickenlooper, he’ll get away with it, and he’ll get another term.

WOODS:

  • I hope that doesn’t happen
  • That’s why we’re in the race to start with

BOYLES:

  • Cory Gardner:  they’re ‘Bucking’ him.  Do you think so?  I don’t know what’s going to happen there

WOODS:

  • No, we don’t
  • But we’re fighting hard
  • And there’s a lot of people in this state that have had enough of the Establishment and the machine, and the leadership and the legislature
    • They’ve had enough
    • They’re very, very desperate in some ways
      • They don’t have jobs
      • They don’t have a paycheck
      • If they’re lucky enough to have a paycheck, it’s less than it ever was
        • Because of taxes
        • Because of health insurance that’s gone through the roof
        • Colorado needs to stand up and push back against the establishment

BOYLES:

  • Ryan ‘RECall’ and the other stalwarts, they’re not standing up, they’re trying to put in their Establishiment Republican, country club guy.  They’re not going to stand up to illegal immigration, they’re fine with the nonsense we’re seeing at the national level

WOODS:

  • As Republicans, I’d love to see us become the party that learns how to win elections
  • Why are we so good at losing elections?!

BOYLES:

  • Because these people believe that they have to be Small “d” democrats – and it’s what’s happened inside the country, so many taken care of by federal agencies and programs.  You can’t beat Santa Claus

WOODS:

  • All of those gifts come with strings
  • Wake up, America

BOYLES:

  • What do you need?

WOODS:

  • Go to the website
  • Volunteer
  • Donate cash
  • Come knock doors with us.

BOYLES:

  • Time frame.

WOODS:

  • We have until the 24th to vote
  • Change your affiliation –thanks to the Democrats
  • if you’re UA or independent – I need your help
