HOST KRIS COOK:

  • District description

GOP CANDIDATE FOR COLORADO SENATE DISTRICT 19, LAURA WOODS:

  • [describes district boundaries]
  • Evie Hudak’s former district

COOK:

  • Hudak’s appointed successor –Rachel Zenzinger

WOODS:

  • She was Hudak’s campaign manager
  • She was chosen to replace Hudak by the Democrats
  • She has never been elected by the people
    • Never thru assembly process
    • Never won a primary
    • She’s been there one session

COOK:

  • What has she done?

WOODS:

  • What hasn’t she done?
  • The rebel in me is pacing – she gets me fired up
  • Legislature is not in biz to pick winners and losers
    • HB-1011:  she gave $5M to Advanced Ind. Econ Dev. Funding
      • These bills and their names
      • You read it and it doesn’t sound that bad
      • Then you get into the details
      • HB-1017:  pledged $6.25M to Expansion of Availability for affordable housing
        • Sounds great, right
        • HB-1326:  $2.7M to tax incentives for alternative fuel truck
    • Again, picking winners and losers in business
      • SB-73:  $7.5MBrownfield contaminated land Income tax credit bill
    • You have to ask yourself what ANY of these bills?
    • This was Zenzinger’s way to funnel money to her friends in Green energy and Construction
      • In an attempt to to buy votes when the general election rolls around in  November

COOK:

  • It will be interesting to see how her campaign is funded

WOODS:

  • It will be funded by big out-of-state money
    • Michael Bloomberg
    • George Soros
    • Same money that flowed for Amendment t66, against the recalls, against the conservative school board elections
    • Unions
    • Absolute worst thing she did
      • Sits on Education committee
      • After 7 hours of testimony, on Vicki Marble’s Mom’s bill to delay Common core for one year
        • 2 committee members were in tears
        • Rachel Zenzinger said two words all day
          • “present” during roll call
          • “no” when asked for her vote on the bill
        • She just shoved it down the throats of the moms who were coming in there on behalf of their children and rebelling against:
    • Liberal progressive agenda
      • RR said they were “well-meaning”
        • They think they know better than us
        • But constituents are tired of hearing that they’re not smart enough to make their own decisions
          • The want that choice
          • About:
            • Toilets
            • Light bulbs
            • Curriculum
            • Guns
            • Healthcare
            • Schools, and kids
            • God, there is so much, that the gov has taken upon itself to override parents’ rights

COOK:

  • Parents should get to choose.  Zenzinger says, “No, you don’t get to choose how your children are raised” We’ll decide for you. We’re going to tell you what your choices are, what the choice is

WOODS:

  • Yeah.
  • The actual words “We can’t trust parents with this decision” actually came out of the mouths of lib legislators
    • During debate on Vaccination bill

COOK:

  • This kind of thinking pervades everything – how people defend themselves

WOODS:

  • That’s right
  • 2nd amendment
  • They always want to talk about this war on women
    • And yet THEY disarm us
    • Take our guns

COOK:

  • They tell us we can’t afford our own birth control – they have to provide it.

WOODS:

  • Yeah, they tell us we can’t choose our own health insurance
  • They have to tell us what’s best for us
  • And the cost is just going up
    • Fuel
    • Energy
    • Healthcare
    • Astronomical across the state
    • More families and biz are struggling
      • In Arvada & Westminster, storefront after storefront are boarding up
      • They can’t make it in this Democrat controlled economy

COOK:

  • Legion problems with your opponent – let’s talk solutions.   – Depressed area – how to revitalize

WOODS:

  • I think our state is depressed in a lot of ways
    • Freedom fighters in assembly are talking about these ideas
      • Push back against the agenda and say NO MORE!
      • Repeal 12 laws in first session
        • Business personal property tax
        • Healthcare exchange
          • Pushing costs through the roof
          • High premium increases and lessening of benefits
          • Should be free-market, across state lines
            • Costa rica, if they want
            • This will drive costs down
            • Every regulation from the past 2 sessions
              • Go through with fine tooth comb
              • We are all over-regulated and over-taxes
              • Restore fracking and energy development
                • Deregulate O&G industry
                • To spur economy—dramatic benefits to budget and citizens
                • Repeal SB-252 – renewable energy mandate
                  • The single most damaging mandate to small biz in rural CO
                  • I’m from rural CO – steamboat springs
                  • I understand how rural people freel like they don’t have a voice in Denver
                  • Freedom Fighters remember Rural Colorado
                    • Szabo, Lundberg, Holbert,
                    • Everett, Renfroe, Harvey, grantham
                    • Vicki marble, lori saine, etc
                    • We’ll stand up and fight against SB-252
                    • I’m hoping our new Governor will step up and do this himself
              • Just a few ideas to re-energize CO
                • Douglas County has been the poster child in how to bring biz and jobs to a county
                  • #2 in job creation, nationwide
                  • We can learn from them!
                  • I heard the Lt. Gov. Repella mention that on the unity tour

COOK:

  • This is where your focus is:  our economy, trying to get it back on track

WOODS:

  • Economy
  • Biz
  • Government over-reach
  • Education
    • Common core – grave concern
    • Data mining
    • What kids are being taught
    • What they’re allowed to see as they navigate the computer screens – it’s scary
      • It’s wiping out parents rights, students rights, teachers rights
      • With CCSS curriculum, we are hampering our best creative unique talented teachers
      • How can we expect teachers to thrive in that curriculum?”??
      • How can we expect students to become brilliant

COOK:

  • You need that creativity and latitude… this curriculum comes from DC.  Your website has right to work – talk to me about unions

WOODS:

  • No one should have to join a union in order to get or to keep a job
  • In Jeffco, the teachers union goes up against the school board on a regular basis
  • Clearly, it’s not for the children, looking at the big picture…
  • It’s benefitting them
  • They are funding my opponents campaign
  • I will be outspent, but I will not be outhustled.

COOK:

  • You do have credentials in working – recalls:  worked ‘em like a champ.   You have experience pounding the pavement and being successful —  You pushed out Hudak

WOODS:

  • That’s right
  • We worked the Spring recall
  • And then we made a strategic decision to stop that recall, cuz we weren’t going to win it
    • Because the worst would have been to fail
    • If we would have lost, it only would have emboldened Evie Hudak
    • I went to help down south, in Pueblo
      • Victor Head and Adam are genius – they created the scheme
      • Tracking signatures and verifying them before putting them on the petition
      • I loved working with the recall people in Pueblo
        • Grassroots
        • Down to earth
        • Just good people
    • Then we came back and restarted the Hudak recall in the fall.
    • The general will be the fourth time walking this district
      • SD19 voters know me
      • They’re used to seeing me out here in the streets
    • I won the primary by 11%– big solid win
      • Dems everywhere are vulnerable because of their policies

COOK:

  • People are waking up and pushing back.  How can people find you, to donate or help?

WOODS:

  • Fundraiser tonight at the Hoffbrau on Wadsworth
    • 7:00
    • Hosted by Harvey and other legislators
    • Laurawoodsforsenate.org
    • Like on FB
    • Follow on twitter
    • Maximum donations is $400 between now and the general

COOK:

  • Early money is really important to campaigns

WOODS:

  • Yes it will be multiplied [in its impact]
  • 40,000 spent on primary,  raised between Jan and June
  • WE need early money to inspire others to give.

COOK:

  • We’re supporting you — we only need one senate seat!
