Topics: Military Draft, Selective Services, Military Spending
Coffman discusses his plan to dissolve the selective service and wants to lower the standards of military service admittance. Says the selective service $24 million a year and the Armed Services does not want a general draft. “Certainly not the case today” that a disproportionate number of the poor and members of minority groups serve in the military.
I do not think raising taxes and taking more money out of this economy is the answer. Just freezing spending where it is, since we fluffed it up 28 percent in the last two years is not the right way to go. It will not get us where we need to go. And that is non-defense discretionary spending. I think we need to look at everything, including defense. I think they are very top heavy and I am going to be a fiscal hawk on defense. I think it has gotten out of line like any bureaucracy. They have fattened themselves up at the top. Everything has to be on the table, and if not this year than next year, we have to deal with entitlement spending.
