HOST KEN CLARK:
- Glad you’re back in, I’ve been watching you since you announced. You’re getting good at this stump speech thing.
CANDIDATE FOR COLORADO SENATE DISTRICT 22, TONY SANCHEZ:
- It’s pretty clear, what we need to do
- That’s been the appeal from the beginning
- How are we bringing people together
- How are we getting people excited
- Be clear about what it’s about
- About defending liberty
- Getting government out of your life
- Making sure you’ve got the right target
- Get progressive liberalism out of there
- And it’s never about me
- It’s about we, the people
- And it’s never about politics as usual
- It’s about being focused
CLARK:
- Passion shines through. I’m sick of squishies. Tax day. All the different taxes, and somehow you’re supposed to make do raising a family paying bills with what’s left over… it’s becoming impossible
SANCHEZ:
- Quote from Reagan: every day is tax day for Dems
- Especially Andy Kerr
- Lead plaintive against TABOR
- If it were up to him, you’d already be paying a billion more in taxes
CLARK:
- Don’t get me started
SANCHEZ:
- Taxes and Andy Kerr go hand in hand
CLARK:
- They laid over SB 175 today, because Kefalas was out sick and Dems knew they didn’t have enough votes to pass it. This is the Free for all Abortion bill. [reads from the bill – the proactive permanent aspects of the bill] – there’s no definition for “individual” in CO state statute
SANCHEZ:
- What’s really strange, disturbing:
- You have a right to fund Planned parenthood
- And government should not interfere
- And yet, in doing something legislatively, your using government to interfere.
- But it’s the kind of pattern you’ve seen with Kerr
- Human sexuality bill sponsorship
- Saying no to mothers against Common Core when they only wanted a delay for a year
- What is behind all this
- Why is it so important to push all this through?
- My campaign is all about principles, priorities, and possibilities
- And I ask, why is this a priority
- People are bothered by the forcefulness of legislation
CLARK:
- 2013 session ad 2014– most overreaching session – Marxist communist agenda, big-government agenda – it has been astonishing
- There have been a lot of controversial bills—SB 175, HB 1164 voting bill, and recall election bill… and they’re pushing it though because they have both houses and the governor’s office
SANCHEZ:
- People are getting sick of this overreach
- The electorate has woken up
- Their eyes are open
- They see what this is leading to
- I’m optimistic about the future because of this
- As seen as the 1000 people who showed up to protest SB 175
- But in the meantime, a lot of damage is being done. It’s terrible
CLARK:
- Where does Kerr get off? Is he part of the Gates foundation? Is that why he supports Common Core?
SANCHEZ:
- You start to wonder
- When a bipartisan group asking to delay for ONE year
- When NY state delayed for 3 years
- And we can’t do it for 1?
- People talk about the curriculum — and how you can’t talk about it.
- KC: we can’t, because we have an FCC license
- And the half-truths and questionable things in the curriculum
- Founding fathers said we HAVE to register guns
- And you put kids in a place where they know the truth and are afraid to speak up against the accepted view. Afraid to express their opinion
CLARK:
- Senate District 22 boundaries
SANCHEZ:
- [explains/describes]
CLARK:
- We need to take back the Senate. I believe we can take back the House as well, but let’s concentrate on Senate. We need to net at least one seat. 3 or 4 would give a strong majority, so as not to have to worry about any squishes.
SANCHEZ:
- Key battle ground is Jeffco
- Tea parties have 120 members now
- Grassroots are engaged
- Sick and tired of politics as usual
- They want someone to answer their questions
CLARK:
- Your opponent believes government is the solution for everything. They know better. And we lose our freedom and our money.
SANCHEZ:
- Yes
- And a good example is Common Core issue
- A constituent asked about it
- He said he asked experts
- How about asking teachers
- How about talking to parent
- How about slowing down?
CLARK:
- A bunch of mothers across the state of Colorado who tried to figure out Common Core and what to do about it. Marble brought all the groups together and they wrote the Moms’ bill! Not Sen. Marble. It was simple: one year delay. Couldn’t get it done in this legislature. It’s like California, completely out of control. And the bills that Kerr is putting his name on are tragedies
SANCHEZ:
- It’s the pattern of being out of touch leadership
- Same words in the recall — these other legislators
- When it came to gun issue
- When it came to the education issue
- And Kerr is an educator, supposedly!!! That’s the ironic thing
CLARK:
- But what does he teach? Actual kids?
SANCHEZ:
- I don’t know
- I go back to the kids
- Why I’m running: having gone through a place, in San Francisco, where we wanted to settle and then we see this nightmare starting all over again
- People being ostracized for what they believe
- Kids are being scared to say what they believe
- You’re seeing it already, especially with the kids
- That’s the worst thing. That’s what gets me going
CLARK:
- The things they’re forcing through. Why? Why are you doing this? And why do you believer it’s the government’s role? Constitution limits legislators’ authority, but they write these bills that violate the constitution. Who the hell do these people think they are?
SANCHEZ:
- They want to make things fair – they need to make it right
- They believe in social experimentation of some kind
- Feelings override reality
- Ignoring laws
- I like to point that out
- It should be fair!
- It’s not that way in the Olympics
- They are constantly saying “it’s good enough’
- It’s not good enough
- We want what’s better
CLARK:
- If electeds won’t respect the constitution, why should I respect a law that they had no right to pass.
SANCHEZ:
- It all comes back to respect.
- What I keep hearing – there’s no more respect. They feel disrespected
- That’s why people aren’t engaged, why they drop out.
- Is this designed to discourage people?
CLARK:
- After 3 decades, I know that if you don’t get engaged and kick these arrogant (unmitigated) tyrants out. They take liberties
SANCHEZ:
- Look at Nevada [Bundy]
- We want to avoid situations like that
- But what are you supposed to do when your back is up against the wall
- That’s why we want to give people a voice
CLARK:
- I believe in active participation in politics. People don’t realize that they’re involved even if not engaged. We have to take back the legislature and the governor’s office, we’ll never be able to stop this train wreck. if we have a split legislature, we’ll be able to block but they’ll be able to block what we want to repeal
SANCHEZ:
- We have a chance to make a difference
- I encourage people to get involved with a campaign that you believe in
- It’s important
- It’s a real opportunity
- And Colorado can lead the nation
CLARK:
- Kicking Mark Udall back to the brewery, crying in his beer. Wait, that’s Hickenlooper. We’ll kick Udall out of senate as well. I’ll do everything I can, even though I don’t support Cory Gardner. Sometimes you have to twist it, turn it, it hurts, but anything to get Udall out.
SANCHEZ:
- Our vote, our voice, counts
- Someone said “you’re getting Colorado on us” – it means speaking up for liberty
- It’s making an impact
- I want us to think about that
CLARK:
- I’m feeling good about this election cycle. I like how the primaries are shaping up. These candidates are going to have to duke it out. We’ll see who comes out on top.
- [commercial break]
- We’ve covered everything. There’s no problem with messaging
SANCHEZ:
- No, we make it real clear
- We need to be on offense, not defense
- We’re tired of Rs making excuses for the other side
- These are not nice people who are compromising our liberties! No way!
CLARK:
- Liberty movement and the GOP don’t get along so well. Across the country, and CO is symptomatic. Randy Corporon says this… if married and in counseling, the issue of the day would always be the party’s infidelity to principles
SANCHEZ:
- Principles first in my campaign
- Without principles you don’t know what your priorities are
- No possibilities
- Comes down to leadership
- Bring the best out of people
- Accentuate the possibilities and the bigger picture
- Stand strong on principles
- Not bend
- It’s what brings people together
CLARK:
- It’s for the common good—shouldn’t say that, sounds like socialism. It’s for our common interests – getting government the hell out of our lives
SANCHEZ:
- Pure and simple
CLARK:
- Tom Buchanon says “Leave us alone”
SANCHEZ:
- And Reagan, “it’s not about left or right, its about up or down
- Its’ about the tyranny of government vs. personal freedom
- That sums it up
CLARK:
- There a lot of tyranny out there

CLARK:
- I seem to endorse your candidacy at the Common Core rally where I was MC
SANCHEZ:
- Yes you did,
- I appreciate that
- Lori Saine also
CLARK:
- Damn proud to endorse you
