Guest #1:  Tony Sanchez  candidate for Colorado State Senate District 22

  • Candidate statement
    • CO at a crossroads
      • Independent minded
      • Friendly
      • Think outside the box
  • Pattern
    • Compromises in common sense values and principles
    • Out of control government policies
    • Illegal taxes and wasteful spending
    • Lack of leadership from elected officials
  • I’ll protect beauty of our community
  • What do you mean by “beauty”?
    • Vibrant  independent spirit that we have here in CO
    • What are our principles and what do we believe/
      • Cry for liberty
      • Iindividualism
  • Books like The Stand – (CO was heaven) and Ayn Rand (CO a place to rebuild) or Red Dawn – a romantic but real kind of concept
  • CO unique with mtns, plains, and distinct communities – but people are rugged individualists
    • JW:  no choice in WY
    • KC:  we’ve been californiacated –and it’s time it stopped – invaded by progressive mindset
    • TS:  when I saw Rafael Cruz—reminded me of my own Grandmother
      • From Centro America
      • Scrubbing floors and selling pineapples
      • Smoked cigars and open-carried a machete in San Francisco
      • Quotes like “If you have enough energy to complain, you have enough energy to do”
      • This is what America is and who we are
      • Quotes like that attracted me to Colorado
      • Ppl look for that in CO
      • It’s a worthwhile fight to defend and preserve
      • JW:   A winning message here.   Progs haven’t helped economy and biz and jobs – I don’t necessarily want a legislature that’s pro-business, I want leg that’s pro individual.  We don’t need to write every little tiny regulation
        • Ppl in district say over and over to me “leave us alone, let us live our lives”
        • That’s the message behind [critiques] of Obamacare
          • A person at meet & greet – a Hispanic Dem actually
            • “I can’t stand Obamacare”
            • Hurting my business, hurting my family
    • Across political spectrum
      • Where people are starting to get this message
      • In the  Liberty side, in the conservative side
      • It’s spreading
    • Recalls were just the beginning
    • KC: boils down to responsibility – life liberty pursuit of happiness… Bob Bechel has no idea what that actually means – it’s about your personal responsibility to preserving and defending your own life… it’s not a right to healthcare!
      • Whenever people say they want to make things fair, they ultimately make it unfair for everybody else.
      • That’s really my philosophy and understanding
      • Caller from Black Forest, Mark:  Reconsider the term ‘leadership’…. We don’t need leadership!  We need representatives and people to follow the Constitution!  People need to lead! Politicians throw that term around – nothing personal
        • When I say leadership, that’s exactly what I mean
        • Bold leadership
          • Doesn’t mean you tell people what to do
          • Means you serve your community
          • What we’re seeing now is people dictating…
            • Blaming tea party for losses
            • Blaming libertarians
            • Blaming conservatives
    • Leaders represent people
    • You can’t make anything happen by telling people what to do
      • I believe in the complete opposite
      • JW:  How do I address a problem from within the framework of a Constitution, city charter, etc.  Government is horrible at saving souls and anything else.  KC:  That’s not the job of Government.  JW:  Exactly, so why do we ask them to?
        • I went to one group and they asked me what’s the best thing a legislator can do?
        • And I said just shut up and listen to what you have to say
        • Plenty of people who wa nt to educate others, not enough who want to listen and respect people
        • Leadership is about setting priorities
          • We’ve seen in the last session a lack of priorities
          • Sex Ed for 4th graders was that the priority? Most important
          • JW:  depends on who paid your bills
          • Exactly
          • Have to be able to have that understanding, those kind of priorities, make the case and listen to what people say
          • People are worried about Common Core
            • Some say Don’t bring it up
            • Listen to those concerns in the community
            • And bring those things up
            • Not a bad thing to stick to principles and tell favor-seekers NO!
            • KC: bold leadership in this day and age, is when you see something that’s wrong, — for instance, race baiting,  you speak out on it.  When you have your principles, you speak to your principles and you stick to your principles.  Now we have a freshman class that knows how to do that – and they will not back down, and they are not politically correct, either
              • Exactly
              • Not about being politically correct
              • And not about legislating political correctness – you have to think in this sort of way
              • NO, no no!  we have to be able to say what is best for our communities , best for CO
              • That is how I look at this
              • KC:  Being elected gives you bully pulpit and people want you to speak on their behalf, but they don’t want you to back down, not being a squish, they don’t want you saying “mmm that might damage me politically”  so we’re going to circle the firing squad and go after it. – that’s not being a leader.  That’s being a coward
                • When I speak out, I talk about our liberties being under attack.  And about being on the offensive instead of defensive
                • That’s why the Republicans have lost
                • They ‘re almost like arguing the issues that the Dems want to argue
                • No, no, what are the things that are important for us
                • Andsometimes you see people on the other side doesn’t back down… they might be wrong, but they don’t back down
                • And they support each other, and that’s what we need to do
                • Take the offensive… I see no problem in that
                • John Andrews is right – we’re riding a wave right now and we need to continue that momentum.  But we do that through messaging… reminding people what they’ve done to us!
                  • On the other side Andy Kerr – they talk a lot about the $1B tax increase that’s going to be reocurring
                  • Some candidates don’t speak about it or they don’t take a stand… I take a CLEAR stand, I signed the tax cut pledge.
                  • When people are struggling, cashing in 401Ks, retiring early, it’s insane to even think about a tax hike
                  • Yet we need to be bold when it comes to something like that
                  • We can’t say things like “Oh I don’t know if I can say something like that.
                  • If you can’t talk about that, what can you talk about?
                  • JW:  I hope you’re out campaigning against Amendment 66 when you’re out there talking to people.  It’s a monstrosity@!
                    • Yes it is
                    • JW:  we just flushed more money down on government unions and pensions and guess what, our kids aren’t getting any smarter
                    • [After commercial break]
                    • Tony, I’ve known you a long time.  I’m excited about you trying to help us take back the senate.  And you have filled out the RMGO Assn survey.  You didn’t have any issues?
                      • Yes, long ago, no problem filling that out
                      • No, there’s no question, when you don’t defend the 2nd Amendment, all the other rights and liberties are under attack
                      • That is why we must be bold when it comes to  defending the 2nd Amdnement
                      • So I have no qualms
                      • KC:  They actually grade it… can’t remember how I scored, but I have a feeling it was way up there.  JW:  Yeah, mine was pretty good, too.
                      • JW:  What else?  Are you seeing in your district…
                        • I’m having meet and greets
                        • Meeting with non-profits and churches
                        • I’m hearing a lot of disillusionment –
                          • Hatred to what the Democrats have done
                          • And some disillusionment toward Republican party
                          • I actually had one guy , hadn’t voted R in 10 years, you’re the first conservative I’ve met here
                          • Frustration:  where do people stand, what do they believe?  Are they actually going to fight for us?
                          • Or is it going to be go along to get along and just laugh and
  • One of the worst thing I’ve heard is “oh that guy is a nice guy.”  And Kerr is not a nice guy.  A nice guy doesn’t do all those things that they do to you when it comes to the 2A, when it comes to a whole lot of other issues,of taxes, and he’s a lead plaintiff against TABOR.  Nice people don’t do those kinds of things.
  • Sometimes we try to say, well I just don’t want to upset anybody
    • What?”  you’re in politics
    • You need to
    • If you’re not going to stand up for what you believe in, why are you doing this in the first place
    • Because these people are in it for their own personal gain.  I’m sorry, but they are. They don’t want to rock the boat.   They know who pays the bills, they know which side their bread is buttered on.  That’s why I’m so please with the current recruits…. They’re not going to back down to leadership in either party
      •  Exactly,.  This is my home, I’m going to fight for my home.  I’m going to fight for CO
      • You see how resilient people are.  How ppl are sticking through fire and floods and everything else
      • Why wouldn’t you fight for people lke that
      • That’s what I’m hearing out there – people just like that
      • Young people expecially, they want someone who has principles.  Talking about Constitution and about God – they want somebode who’s old enough to talk about things like that
      • Where I grew up – adults would tell kids certain things, Don’t do this don’t do that   There was that kind of bond there and that’s the kind of thing that’s good, when people can share that
      • JW:  I don’t need to agree on every single issue with the person I’m voting for.   But right now, there is no choice.. it’s 1A and 1B  — like special tax examptions on airplane maintenance companies.  KC:  Oh, yeah! I remember that.  The said it was we need the jobs.  JW:  Politicians in general will figure out a way to justify the projects that somebody paid them to get into office ask them to do.  I hope that’s not going to happen
        • Well, it’s not going to happen
        • Because,  I tell you, sometimes some people talk to me and they want to figure out, “Is this the real deal.”
        • No, I actually believe the stuff I’m saying
        • And I’ve got a lot of great support with my wife as well, if anytime I always start to sway a little bit, she’s – and which I don’t, she’s like hey, hey, hey! What’s going on
        • 13 years ago, when we first got married, she says you know what, as long as you don’t run for office, we’re okay.
          •  I forgot about that,
          •  and yet four months ago, she was hearing the calls I was getting, she was hearing the things people were asking me,
          • and she said I think you should run.  I think people need a voice here, people need to be heard here
          • and you’re the guy to do it.
          • We prayed about it, thought about it
          • I got a lot of feedback from a lot of other people .  It wasn’t just about me.  I had to ask other people, well what do you think. What are your concerns.
          • And that’s when I started hearing about the taxes, how bad people were hurting with one job. And a lot of people don’t want to talk abou thtis for fear of being–
          • People with two jobs.  Trying to make ends meet.  KC:  we’re two people working two jobs.  JW:  Nobody has it easy right now unless you’re in that class that’s beyond caring.  If you are, great, I hope you don’t lord it over other people and but up barriers for other people to get there. KC:  Democrats absolutely do not know care.  They have no concept about what their policies do to people like us
            • Exactly
            • I would manage a non-profit and that’s a place where people would care , right
            • And then you have some people who would go in there and want to throw a lot of money and that you wind up not getting it to the people who actually need the services.
            • That’s the way it happens with big  government  programs – actually wasting money
            • That is the kind of thing we should be pointing out
            • If you want to make a difference Spend money responsibly, efficiently
            • Breaking news:  GOP budget plan approved by House and sent to Senate… don’t know what’s in it.  Satellite radio
              • I’m going to fight for my life over there
              • Last election cycle, this race was one of the most expensive races
              • This will probably be the race that will decide the Senate one way or the other
              • That seat is held by
                • Andy Kerr
                • He can run, because it wasn’t his old district,  this district shifted
                • We’ll start doing some homework on his record.  If they’re D, Tony, they vote in lock-step.
                  • The last time I looked at that  [principles of liberty scorecard] he was one of the bottom three
                  • If I’m not mistaken
                  • I want remind people tonyforcolorado.com
